The New Conservative

Period piece

That supreme basket case among economic basket cases, Scotland, may have turned its back on independence but that has not saved it from the ongoing madness of the SNP. People used to go to Scotland annually to the Fringe Festival to have a laugh at the comedians on show there. Now you don’t need to go to Scotland, you can stay at home and simply have a good laugh at the country.

The Supreme Leader Nicola Sponger has a vision for her country that would lead to international isolation and economic disaster, and well she knows it. She simultaneously oversees the implementation of policies which are economically unsustainable while expecting the Barnett formula to continue to be paid to an independent Scotland, a currency cleared by English banks and even to keep the Royal Family. Mind you, with the declining popularity of the Royal Family in the UK, Scotland may soon be the only place they are welcome.

Nicola’s desire to keep the Barnett formula is perfectly understandable given that it vastly outweighs the income generated in Scotland by its three industries of oil, whisky and tourism. The truth is that an independent Scotland would be unable to support itself economically and would have no defence against military aggression—assuming anyone thought the place was worth invading. With its Hate Crime Bill and attempts to rewrite history, even over things that don’t exist such as the Loch Ness Monster to the extended maintenance of Covid related restrictions which were even harsher than those in England, I doubt anyone in their right mind would choose to live there.

However, if you’re a man who uses tampons then this is just the place for you, they are available in all male toilets in public buildings. This abject wokery has even migrated south of the border in Brewdog pubs (the beer comes from Scotland) where you can help yourself to a handful of tampons once you have finished at the urinal. And now the SNP have excelled themselves north of the border by appointing a man in Tay Region as a regional period dignity officer. Martina Navratilova hit the woke nail on the head, commenting ‘This is just f****** ridiculous’. Even that one man turbine of verbosity and hot air, Ian Blackford, leader of the SNP at Westminster expressed his preference to have a woman in the role.

Scotland already has a Period Products Act which ensures that period products are available free. In line with this, the appointee Jason Grant will work to promote access to free period products, and he will also work on issues around menopause. Compounding the delusion that he is the right man for the job Mr Grant thinks that being a man will ‘encourage more open discussions’ and naturally he will be ‘making people aware of the availability of period products for anyone of any gender.’ Quite who he will be having discussions with is not clear and how hard can it be making people aware of the availability of something that is free—in Scotland!

What Nicola herself thinks of the appointment of a man in a role so clearly one that should be filled by a woman is not known. However, there is considerable anger from Scottish women. The concept of ‘peak woke’ is frequently raised, and just when you think it has been attained, the SNP reaches new heights. With any luck, every new initiative by the SNP designed to move Scotland further from being a civilised and self-sustaining country, will be another nail in the coffin of its elected majority and another great leap backwards from the dangerous cliff edge of independence.
