Hollywokes

Hollyoaks is a popular soap on Channel 4, its target audience primarily composed of young teenagers and adults between the ages of 16-24. It has a decent rating of 3.6/5 and is enjoyed by 70% of google users, which beats Coronation Street at 68%. However, needless to say, it has become the latest show to follow the pattern of foisting woke gobbledygook on its viewers, by creating an obscene new storyline which involves a 12-year old girl (yes, 12!) questioning her gender identity.

The new episode came out a few weeks ago. There’s been a meltdown about it on X (formally known as Twitter) and it has been heavily criticised by some Tory MP’s; here’s why.

In the scene, the young girl, Rose, appears to be upset and complains to another transgender character, Kitty, that she “does not know what the first step is: I’m a boy, but my body’s all wrong. How am I supposed to tell my parents?” at which point Kitty replied: “I’ll help you in whatever way I can. But you need to know that your life is in your hands. So, stop bunking off school. Then, and only then, you can start thinking about how and when you can tell your mum. You can’t move on with your life until you’ve told the people you love who you truly are. That is if you’re sure?” Rose insisted that she is “so sure”. Finally, Kitty added: “Well then, once you’ve taken the first step you can start actually being who you truly are. It’s the best feeling in the world.”

The conversation is ridiculous, but the most egregious aspect is a hint that Rose (remember, she is only 12) is thinking about going to a gender reassignment clinic and having surgery to transform her into a boy – less Hollyoaks than Hollyblokes. This is not only dangerous, but also disturbing to know that the scriptwriters would actually think to add this to the scene. In fact, Channel 4 responded to the scene, which they posted on X, and here is what a spokesman had to say about the issue:

“This is an important and timely storyline that will be of interest to many of our viewers and we are committed to telling it sensitively and responsibly. Hollyoaks has a well-established reputation for telling authentic and emotional stories involving complicated family relationships, and for tackling difficult and sensitive issues.”

This is not the only show aimed at young spectators to add this gender bending nonsense: Transformers: Earthspark, a cartoon, sparked outrage after it introduced a non-binary character and featured a whole scene dedicated to the discussion of identity last year. Many other Netflix shows and films have dipped their toes into the trans water, including: Big Mouth, a sitcom targeted at young teenagers, which introduced a new student who comes out as trans; Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, a follow on from Rocko’s Modern Life the series and aimed at tweens, re-introduces two characters from the original, however, their child is trans. And the reboot of Gossip Girl took a turn into ‘representing a modern day New York’ with many LBGT+ characters.

Why program makers are so adamant on including trans storylines in shows is a mystery; they may get a pat on the back from Stonewall, but they certainly won’t from their viewers. After all, much that has gone woke to date has gone broke: Bud Light, Target and even Coronation Street lost viewers due to woke plots. Hollyoaks should be focusing on what has made their audience stick with them since 1995. Let’s hope this new storyline is a colossal failure.

  1. Hollyoaks storylines have always been ‘latest thing’ focussed and there was a girl who lived as a boy in it many years ago, complete with ex boyfriend and conversion therapy story etc. I wouldn’t read too much into TV soaps desperate desire to appear edgy social commentaries, viewers just lap it up as light entertainment and I don’t think it influences them any way as much as indoctrination in schools and further/higher education and in the constant drip of advertising and MSM focus.

    1. And having lapped it up (if you have) then bring it up as if you’ve just been dosed (as you have) with soap. (Isn’t that why they’re called ‘soap operas’? It ought to be.) Which is worse, a trans Hollyoaks or a non-trans Hollyoaks? It’s a version of that question Dr Johnson famously had difficulty answering: which should take precedence a louse or a flea?
